Vote Alert: ATR and COGC Urge the House to Vote YES on the Blackburn Amendment Across-the-Board Cut
ATR and COGC sent an alert to the House of Representatives yesterday, urging members to adopt Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn’s amendment to the Energy and Water Appropriations bill. The Alert states:
All Members of the United States House of Representatives should support Rep. Marsha Blackburn’s amendment to the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act of 2013. The amendment would implement an across-the-board spending cut of 1 percent, saving the taxpayers an additional $321 million.
In its current form, the FY 2013 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Bill includes $32.1 billion in funding. While coming in $965 million below the President’s budget request, there is still room for improvement. By imposing a 1 percent cut to every line item, the Blackburn Amendment further reins in the escalating cost of government, causing these departments to operate more efficiently on the taxpayers’ dime.
Many state and local governments have used across-the-board cuts to realize significant savings for taxpayers and bring their budgets under control. Any members who are not willing to cut even a penny from each appropriated dollar send a clear message that they do not take the government’s spending problem seriously.
By establishing a level of funding well below the President’s budget, the Appropriations Committee has begun the process of returning fiscal responsibility to Energy and Water Appropriations. We encourage all Members of the House of Representatives to continue striving toward this goal by supporting the Blackburn Amendment and further curtailing federal spending.
Taxpayers deserve better
