Vote Alert: ATR and COGC Urge the House to Vote YES on the Blackburn Amendment
ATR and COGC sent an alert to the House of Representatives today, urging members to adopt Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn’s amendment to the Energy and Water Appropriations bill. The Alert states:
All Members of the United States House of Representatives should support Rep. Marsha Blackburn’s amendment to the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act of 2013. The amendment would prevent any of the funds appropriated under that act from being used to provide new loan guarantees or commitments under title XVII of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
Title XVII of the Energy Policy Act has been the source of funds for green energy boondoggles like Solyndra, Fisker, and Beacon Power, which have lost hundreds of millions in taxpayer money. Using this title as their personal "stimulus" fund, Department of Energy has been giving handouts to well-connected companies with disastrous results for the taxpayer’s bottom line.
As lawmakers seek for substantive ways to curtail wasteful government spending, preventing taxpayer money from going to bankroll special interest investors should top the list of potential reforms.
Taxpayers struggling to make ends meet can ill afford the burden of propping up inefficient and unprofitable energy businesses. We encourage all Members of the House of Representatives to vote YES on Rep. Blackburn’s Amendment and ensure that taxpayer funds stay out of the pocket of special interests.
Taxpayers deserve better
