Mattie Duppler Debates Defense Sequestration on NPR Los Angeles
Last week at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Executive Director Mattie Duppler appeared on NPR Los Angeles’s AirTalk, debating HASC Chairman Buck McKeon on the consequences of the coming defense sequestration. Duppler highlights the disconnect between some conservatives’ skepticism about general government spending and blanket support of higher defense spending. She urges policymakers to start looking at defense spending like we look at other spending: “limited government advocates are normally very skeptical of the federal government’s ability to spend more in order to do better things.” Limited government conservatives should challenge the assumption that more defense spending will necessarily mean stronger national security.
